FAQs
I don’t want to buy anything. How do
I get taken off your list?
There is no list. What you are experiencing is an attempt
by your software vendor to keep the software you have
installed on your computer up-to-date so that it runs
efficiently and safely. If you prefer not to be notified
of updates, there is a desktop tool called the Update
Manager that you can use to control the updates and
messages you receive. For general information, see About
the Update Manager. For instructions on how to change
update settings using the Update Manager, see Changing
Settings.
How do I stop updates?
There is a desktop tool called the Update Manager that
gives you control over the updates and messages you
receive. For general information, see About
the Update Manager. For instructions on how to change
update settings using the Update Manager, see Changing
Settings.
Can I uninstall the Update Manager?
The Update Manager was probably installed along with an
application that you installed. There is an
uninstall for the Update Manager.
I installed the update, but the update still
appears in the available list?
While this should never happen, it occasionally does
occur. This happens because your software vendor incorrectly
configured the update. To avoid seeing the update, you
can hide it. For instructions on how to hide updates
and messages, see Hiding and Resetting
Updates. For a permanent solution, bring this issue
to the attention of your software vendor.
What information does the Update Service collect?
The Update Service collects the product name, product
version, and the language in which the product is run.
This is the only information needed to provide you with
the correct update for the software you have installed.
For more information read our privacy statement or contact
your software vendor.
My firewall security software tells me that that InstallShield's "Agent.exe is
trying to access the Internet". Why does this happen?
Agent.exe is a part of the InstallShield Update Service. The InstallShield
Update Service is a Web-based service that connects your software programs
to their available updates. This requires it to use the Internet. Your
software provider decides how often the agent will check for an update
to your software. However, you may use the
Update Manager control panel applet to reset how often these connections
take place (or stop them entirely).
